My first goal in this class will be to become more knowledgeable on the subject matter of literacy. I hope to become more familiar with the terms of literacy so that I can more easily teach my students about them.
My second goal is to become more knowledgeable of literary sources that I can reference when I am stumped. With this, I would also like to learn of groups or councils for literacy teachers to join so that I can continuously learn out in the field as a certified teacher.
My final goal for this course is to become a better teacher. This simply means I would like to learn how to relax when I teach. Thus far in the field, I feel like I am not doing a satisfactory job of helping the students in my CT’s classroom.
By meeting these goals in this course, I feel that I will become more knowledgeable of literacy and a better teacher.

The best way to start overcoming your fears is to really take the time to articulate them accurately. During this year and next, you have a high level of very personalized support. If you can figure out what intimidates you and work through it now, you will be so much happier than if you try to do it on your own during your first year of teaching, when you are likely to have a much lower level of support. Figure out what you are afraid of and own it- take everything you can from this program. I often worry that students try to be impressive becuase they are worried about grades, and miss out on opportunities to showcase the areas in which they could benefit the most from instruction/support. I'm not saying that it's ok to turn in things that are poorly done, but rather that the most important thing is that you are showing that you are learning from your assignments and experiences. This is also a great way to utilize the communication log you have with your CT- tell her what you think you are struggling with when you work with kids and see what her suggestions are. Oh, and join CARC! the url is on our angel cite under lessons.
Olivia- I feel like there were many sources and ideas that are literacy-based from Troia's coursepack. If you did not save it, I still have it if you would like to look through it.
Olivia-
I had a lot of the same fears/goals as you. I think it is important to have sources that you can go to when you are having trouble coming up with an answer or idea. I like that you mentioned going to groups or councils because other poeple or mentors can be a really important source.
I agree with your second goal about finding councils and groups to help us when we get stuck and i hope that we will be getting more information on places that we can get information from.
